The contours of the 720S are distinctly McLaren, yet the details are boldly different. Our designers took inspiration from the Great White Shark, a beautifully sleek yet brutally efficient hunting machine. The resulting design for the 720S is exquisite form following ingenious function. The smooth flow of the exterior lines manipulates onrushing air to reduce drag and cool the engine. Slim pillars on the teardrop-shaped cabin allow for the extraordinary glass canopy that floods the interior with daylight and offers unrivalled visibility.
An innovation of the technology first seen in the McLaren P1™ hypercar, the MonoCage II is a one-piece carbon fibre tub that now includes the roof. Unique to the supercar category, this high-strength, low-weight passenger cell provides unrivalled rigidity, resulting in thrilling driving dynamics and exceptional protection for you and your passenger. The MonoCage II, unique to the 720S, extends over the engine bay and includes wider door apertures that open into the roof.
Stunning Performance
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. At McLaren, we believe it’s the elegance of an efficient design. That’s why nothing about the 720S is there for any reason other than out-and-out performance. The dihedral doors may turn heads. But part of their function is to cool the high temperature radiator through air channels in the innovative double skin (and help you access tighter parking spaces). While the new glazed floating cantrails that support the roof also improve powertrain cooling and increase downforce, without increasing drag.
The McLaren 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine generates a scintillating 720PS and 770Nm. The ultra-lightweight Monocage II-S sets the stage for best-in-class acceleration – unlocking 0-200km/h (0-124mph) in just 7.9 seconds. And contributes to a dry weight as low as 1,332kg with all lightweight options fitted. Among The Stars
Every detail considered. The 720S infotainment system is another ground-breaker. The McLaren Driver Interface (MDI) makes all key driver information available across the Central Infotainment Screen on the central console, as well as the neat Folding Driver Display behind the steering wheel. This puts navigation, audio track information and more right under the driver’s nose. And you can switch between Full and Slim Display Modes at the touch of a button – depending on how much information you need. While our four-speaker audio system (the lightest ever fitted in a production McLaren) offers supreme sound quality across frequency ranges. For the perfect soundtrack to your drive.
The 720S Spider presents yet another anomaly – a supercar with enough luggage space for a weekend away. In fact, it has 150 litres of storage in the front. And with the Retractable Hard Top up, there’s an additional 58 litres of storage under the tonneau. That’s best in class… and all in a car that does 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in 2.9 seconds.
Safe. Rigid. Light. Like every McLaren, a carbon fibre monocoque is the backbone of the 720S. It’s based closely on the carbon fibre architecture of the 720S Coupe. In fact, that’s the beauty of the Monocage II-S. It has so much inherent strength that we didn’t need to make significant changes (or increase the weight) to allow for the Retractable Hard Top. So unlike other convertibles, no additional strengthening of the windscreen surround was needed. The ultra-slim A-pillars, too, remain untouched – delivering supreme visibility through the wide windscreen. The result? The 720S offers the same blistering performance as its Coupѐ forerunner… with the added exhilaration of roof-down driving.

The driving characteristics of the car dramatically change when you switch driving modes. You can choose between three – Comfort, Sport and Track. Comfort delivers exactly what its name promises – a refined drive that’s effortlessly perfect for everyday journeys. Dial up to Sport or Track to increase chassis stiffness through the hydraulic anti-roll and dampers, and the car becomes increasingly honed for performance. And delivers simply amazing feedback.
